Meet our founders

Monicah & Rachael

Two friends. One dream. A shared love for Kenya.

Cypress Bush Explorers began with two university friends, Monicah and Rachael, and a dream. We met on campus while pursuing our studies in Hospitality and Tourism, sharing conversations about the industry we were learning about and imagining what it would be like to one day build something of our own. Since then, we have built more than 15 years of combined experience across hospitality, travel, customer service, reservations, guest relations, and tourism operations.

As we gained experience and developed our careers, our shared vision became clearer: to create a travel company that would not only take people to Kenya, but would help them experience Kenya. That vision became Cypress Bush Explorers.

Today, we are building a company rooted in the values that inspired us from the beginning — hospitality, authenticity, reliability, curiosity, and a genuine love for Kenya. We believe great travel begins with great hospitality, and that every guest deserves to feel seen, heard, and genuinely cared for. For us, thoughtful service is not a checklist; it is a promise we keep from the very first conversation to the very last.

In our guests' words

Amboseli

Jenny, USA

Guide: Peter

Our trip to Amboseli with Cypress Bush Explorers was an experience I will never forget. We were saddened to learn about the elephants that had died, and what touched me most was the way our guide, Peter, handled the situation.

Instead of simply continuing with the game drive, he took us to pay our respects and explained what had happened. He also took the time to teach us about elephant conservation, the challenges wildlife faces, and why protecting these incredible animals matters.

It was a deeply moving experience and reminded us that a safari is about so much more than seeing animals and taking photographs. Our guide showed genuine respect for the wildlife and shared knowledge that gave us a much deeper appreciation for conservation.

Aberdare waterfalls

Douglas, USA

Guide: John

Most people know Kenya for safaris, but the Aberdare waterfalls showed us there's so much more. The journey there wound through beautiful forest and mountain trails before opening up to stunning falls. Our guide John made it even better, sharing great stories about the ecosystem and local wildlife. Peaceful, refreshing, and totally different from a typical safari. Highly recommend if you want to see another side of Kenya!

Nairobi National Park

Daniele, Italy

Guide: Steve

Incredible morning at Nairobi National Park! Entered through Mbagathi Gate and spotted a lion just 3 minutes into our drive — sightings kept coming after that. Our guide Steve was fantastic, sharp-eyed and full of knowledge. Ended the trip with a visit to Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to see the orphaned elephants, which was the perfect way to close out the morning. Highly recommend if you want a real safari experience without leaving the city!
